What is a credit limit?

A credit limit is the amount of money your credit card provider has made available to you - it represents the full amount you're able to borrow. Your 'available credit' is your credit limit minus any outstanding balance on your card. Your maximum credit limit will be decided based on a number of factors, such as how long you've been a customer and what your history with credit cards has been like. Your credit limit is displayed on the letter you receive with your Barclaycard, on your statement and also shown within Barclaycard online servicing and the Barclaycard app. You can sign up to sms or email alerts that will keep you up to date on your balance and available credit. Depending on how you manage your account, your credit limit will be increased from time to time. You can request a new credit limit in Barclaycard online servicing - simply go to the 'Request a new credit limit' page. To register for or log into Barclaycard online servicing click here.
